- Abstract:
- The Defra project FA0178 (2020) evaluated Point-of-Contact (PoC) testing technologies that could enable rapid verification of food authenticity outside traditional laboratory settings. The aim was to assess emerging analytical tools that could be used by regulators, enforcement authorities, or industry to screen food products quickly for potential fraud or mislabelling. The project reviewed a range of PoC technologies, including spectroscopic methods, portable DNA-based assays, immunoassays, and other rapid multi-analyte detection systems. These technologies were assessed for their analytical performance, practicality, cost, portability, and suitability for use in field conditions.
